How to ride | Sound Transit (2024)

Connecting to light rail is easy

Catch a bus to the train

Sound Transit is coordinating with other transit agencies to make it easier for you to catch a bus to the nearest light rail station when new service starts. Check the Trip Planner for your most direct route. Learn how to transfer between services here.

Get dropped off or drive

Many Link light rail stations offer convenient pick-up and drop-off locations. Parking for cars is available at Northgate, Shoreline South/145th and Shoreline North/185th stations. Learn more about parking options.

Safely walk or bike

Bike and walking trails offer easy ways to access transit. You can either store your bike safely at the station or bring it on light rail with you. Here are our favorite tips for combining transit and bikes.

Accessibility for everyone

We believe that transit should be accessible to everyone, which is why we offer a wide range of services to make riding easier.

Pay your fare

There are plenty of ways to pay, so take your pick. The super easy, no stress way is with an ORCA card. Buy an ORCA card at aticket machine, online, or at aretail location.

When to tap?

When riding Link or Sounder trains, tap your ORCA card on the yellow card reader at the start and end of your trip. ORCA calculates the cost of your trip and deducts that amount from your account. On buses, tap the reader by the driver. No need to tap off a bus ride.
