Is It Possible for There to Be More Than Nine Titan Shifters? | Fandom (2024)

This is my first time doing something like this, so please correct me on anything I left out or cited incorrectly. Thanks.

I'm a bit late on this question and I've skimmed and seen a few people ask a similar question on the discussion on Chapter #122 "To You, 2,000 Years Ago". Majority of the chapter is a flashback onthe origins of Ymir Fritz. When she dies, her three daughters are forced to consume her entire body because of King Fritz's fear of losing the powers of the titan.

Instead of a mindless titan eating a shifter kind of thing, we are shown the gruesome act of consuming a shifter while still a human. All that needs to be consumed is the human spinal fluid and from what is shown, there is enough fluid to supply 3 people. That means that Ymir's daughters had ~1/3 of the Titan powers each if no one else was involved in the consumption. Then at some point, the process was done again and again until there were the Nine Titan Shifters we know today. But why stop at nine? Did it stay there because of the number of houses currently possessing these powers? Let's ignore this possibility since that's not what I'm after.

We know that a titan shiftercontains enough spinal fluid to distribute their powers to at least 3 people (although this might vary person to person). So if Maria, Rose, and Sina each had 3 people evenly consume their spinal fluid, there would be nine shifters (each holding ~1/9 of Ymir's power). Same thing,if those nine shifterseach also had 3 people consume their fluid, there would be 27 shifters, ~1/27 of Ymir's power. Continue finding 3 to the power of x and soon there could be a whole army of titan shifters. But these titans will most likely be bland, normal power titans very similar to mindless titans because of the small distribution of Ymir's power. This is only finding the supposed "maximum" using 3, there may be even more spinal fluid that more people can consume to create more shifters from one person. There may be a shifter who can only provide enough spinal fluid for 1 or 2 people, it varies. Sorry I got a bit mathy there, it was the only way I could think of explaining it like that.

This idea is probably flawed somehow in something I didn't notice and that's fine. I just got curious and wondered if this was possible. Also, sorry if my explanation and concept wasn't good, I have trouble conveying my thoughts into words in persuasive writing. Thanks for any feedback and response, I'm glad for joining in on the Fandom Wikis.

TL;DR: Can multiple titan shifters be produced from one shifter by consuming an equal distribution of the human spinal fluid? If so, can this create an army of titan shifters?

If, in more than 1800 years, the number of shifters remained at nine, then it means the powers can't be divided anymore: if it was possible, then we would have more than nine shifters for sure. In 1700 years, there's no way they haven't tried to divide some shifter powers to get more, especially has we know that they already have done many experiments, some of them giving us the Ackermans.

If three (or more persons) eat the spine of a shifter (let's consider they can do it before the power is passed to a baby, which seems to complicated), it'd be the first to have eatenthe spinal fluid that will inherit of the power (even if they seem to eat at the same time, there'll always be extremely small time differencies).

Why the shifters power can't be devided anymore? Here is my little theory: for some reason, when Ymir died, her power didn't pass to someone else, and remained within her. So, when her three daughters ate her, they could inherit it. A similar situation must have happened, when the three daughters died, they were all eaten by three persons respectively, because their power didn't leave their body when they died. But I suppose that after this, when they were at nine shifters, then the power started to leave the bodies when the person dies (inherited bya newborn).

So, that's how they came up with eating a shifter in pure Titan form, because it allows you to eat the person while he/she is still alive, making sure you inherit the power when you eat him/her. If they stayed with "eating the spine when the shifter dies", for sure the power would go to a newborn before you have the time to eat the spine (because in this situation you can't directly eat the spine without killing the person first, unlike in Titan form). Of course, the pure Titan stuff is also because eating someone while not being conscious of it is far better than being conscious of it.
