King Charles III, head of state of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries, owns the most extensive art collection of any member of royalty, and indeed the largest private art collection in the world. Including more than a million objects, among which are some 7,000 paintings and approximately 450,000 photographs, it is dispersed between 13 royal residences within the UK. Some items are owned by the King himself as an individual, while others are the property of the Crown – the latter including works bought by the country’s monarchs over a period of 500 years.
