Former Love Island couple Luke Mabbott and Demi Jones appear to have different versions of how and why they split earlier this year.
Their brief relationship came to an end at the beginning of lockdown just a few months after they left the Love Island villa in fourth place.
Demi later confirmed their break-up to Metro.co.uk explaining that she decided to call it quits as her ‘energy wasn’t being reciprocated’.
Now during a Q&A in her latest YouTube video, Demi responded to mounting speculation about their abrupt break-up and claimed he had met up with current girlfriend Lucie Donlan before ending their relationship.
‘I went through all of Lucie’s profile to see if there was anything on there that might see that they’re together,’ Demi explained.
She added: ‘I noticed all these cryptic captions with loads of ‘shhh’ emojis and about getting butterflies and secret eyes.
‘I put two and two together. Obviously they must have started talking during lockdown.
‘He then wanted to meet up with her – or was already meeting up with her, I don’t know – and that’s why he wanted to suddenly cut it. Then they obviously got together not long after that or were together – or released it not long after that.’
Luke hit back at his ex’s comments and claimed she asked him to fake the timing of their split.
According to Luke, Demi asked: ‘Can you wait three weeks for my clothing brand to launch?’
He added: ‘I was thinking: “My feelings come first”. I wasn’t too happy about it but I did say yeah.’
In his Instagram stories, Luke continued: ‘Me and Demi split up on 29 May. Lucie checked with me a couple of days or a week after to see if I was single.
‘We went on a date 17 June and then we started going out in July. It’d just like to squish it now – get it over and done with.
‘I hope everyone can get on with their lives because me and Lucie have never been happier.’
His current girlfriend Lucie, who appeared on Love Island last year, also lashed out at Demi’s comments and said she was ‘very upset’ by it all, adding that it’s put her and Luke at risk of trolling.
Lucie wrote: ‘Yes, we also get asked questions daily about how we split up with our respective ex’s but we don’t think it’s appropriate to create drama around other people’s lives, especially if we can see they’ve moved on and are happy.
‘This video has unfortunately sent a whole load of hate trolls our way which has really affected both of us with their horrible and sometimes disgusting comments and it’s something that really should not be happening on the internet especially in these difficult times when people are already struggling with their mental health.’
