Ounces by Fluid and Weight are not the Same
In the US, we have both fluid ounces and weigh ounces. They’re not the same.
Fluid ounces are a volume measurement for liquids and should be measured with a liquid measuring cup.
Weight ounces are for—you guessed it!—weight, and should be weighed on a scale.

How many ounces in a cup? There are 8 fluid ounces in 1 cup.
How many ounces in a quart? There are 32 ounces in 1 quart.
In the US, 1 cup is equal to 8 fluid ounces. This conversion is widely used and not just for recipes. For liquids, 1/2 cup is 4 fluid ounces, 1/4 cup is 2 fluid ounces, and 1/8 cup is 1 fluid ounce.
To convert from tablespoons to cups, simply divide the number of tablespoons by 16. This is because there are 16 tablespoons in a cup. For instance, if you have 32 tablespoons, divide 32 by 16 to get 2 cups.
There are 4.5 dry-weight ounces in 1 cup. This is according to the US system. With dry ingredients, you need to measure it by weight. There is a big difference between fluid and dry ounces.
Liquid measuring cups and dry measuring cups have one big thing in common: They hold the same volume. A 1-cup liquid measuring cup and a 1-cup dry measuring cup, for example, both equal 16 tablespoons.
When working with a limited set of measuring spoons or scaling your favorite recipes up or down, memorizing this kitchen fact will save time: 1 tablespoon is equal to 3 teaspoons.
A fluid ounce, abbreviated as “fl oz”, is a unit of volume commonly used to measure liquids. One fluid ounce is equal to 2 tablespoons, or 30 milliliters.
Unfortunately, although a liquid measure and a dry one actually hold the same volume, the manner in which we measure dry versus wet ingredients greatly differs, and thus the cups are anything but interchangeable.

There are 4 tablespoons in ¼ of a cup. So, if you divide the number of tablespoons by 4 it will give you the number of 'quarter cups'. Then, you multiply that number by ¼. In this case, 12 divided by 4 is 3 and 3 times ¼ is ¾.
