Boyhood Home of the Real John-Boy Walton

This was definitely a must see for me personally, but probably not for just a regular viewer of the show. There is nothing original anymore, and most people are let down, expecting the Walton house from the show. The store has cheaper books signed, and bring cash if you want to go into the house. The people at the museum were fantastic; they made my 2 hour detour worth the visit.

Waltons Home

This is the actual home of the real life John-Boy Walton. Earl Hamner was the creator of The Waltons TV show and his boyhood home (that he shared with 10 brothers and sisters) has been saved from destruction and turned into a Virgina Historical Landmark.

The home is open to the public; you simply go to the store in front of the home to get tickets. The store is where Earl would often retreat to get away from the family and write (in the Walton's TV show, this is depicted as a shed on the side of the house). You are able to walk the 100 feet from the home and visit Ike Godsey's general store. The original burned down in the 1980s and this store was built in its place.

Across from the store is Walton's Mountain Museum. The museum features many items from the show and has recreations of the sets.

Situated on "Walton's Mountain," in Schuyler, a museum honors the timeless television series "The Waltons". Shuyler (population 86), is the boyhood (unincorporated) town of Earl Hamner, author and narrator of "The Waltons." The town consists of all the places that made The Waltons so special. . . including Ike Godsey's Country Store . . . and the boyhood home of Mr. Hamner. . . where the Waltons were so fervently inspired. A place for bargain hunters indeed, at the museum. . for only $7 ($4 if you're actually old enough to have known Earl Hamner in his youth). . . one can enjoy a wall full of inexpensively framed memorabilia. . .consisting of pictures of the entire Walton's cast, and a few frames of film from the series.
