Q: Can you sublimate in acrylic? A: Yes, acrylic is made of sublimation-compatible polymers. Some acrylic blanks have a white surface to give your image an opaque background, but I also like the clear acrylic, as long as the design doesn't heavily rely on white!

'Style' Sublimation Paper

Similar to Style LITE, but using a slightly heavier 120gsm paper stock. Style paper has been in our range from the very beginning. It features the same coating as Style LITE, so is ideal for hard surface substrates such as metal, ceramic, acrylic and glass.

Hot Press paper will be the smoothest, so that is the one I would recommend for painting with acrylics. The Rough Grain paper will have a rough, bumpy texture, and the Cold Press will be a little bumpy but not as much as the Rough Grain.

We suggest 180 degrees C for 180 seconds with medium pressure and you will need to use Dye Sublimation paper. The acrylic we supply is also 3mm so this should work okay for you. When you open the heat press it is best to remove the paper immediately.

Natural fabrics like cotton and silk are not well-suited for sublimation printing as the fibers in these materials do not readily bind to the inks used in sublimation. However, with proper treatment, it is possible to achieve higher quality prints on these fabrics.

Heavier papers or rigid surfaces work the best - watercolor paper, illustration board, masonite, and canvas are all popular choices.

After complete drying, the paper backing of the image needs to be soaked or dampened with water and then removed. This leaves a transparent or translucent image imbedded within the acrylic medium.
