Use

The Titanium Drill is a Hardmode drill, and is the drill alternative to the Titanium Pickaxe. Appearances and sounds aside, the two tools are nearly functionally identical. The drill, however, is half a second faster. But, unlike pickaxes, most drills cannot be reforged with size, speed, or knockback modifiers.

It can mine all blocks except Chlorophyte Ore and Lihzahrd Bricks.

Its best modifier is Demonic, as it does not have any knockback and thus cannot get modifiers that affect it, and furthermore cannot get modifiers that affect its speed, either.

Tips[]

  • Early into Hardmode, it is usually preferable to save Titanium for armor and weapons, as the Titanium Drill does not allow mining any new blocks that the Mythril and Orichalcum pickaxes and drills would not mine.

History[]

  • Desktop 1.4.0.1:
    • Sprite updated.
    • All drills and chainsaws now dig faster than their non-mechanical counterparts, but have shorter range.
    • Additionally, optimized digging loadouts still perform better on pickaxes/axes, but drills and chainsaws will be faster on non-optimized loadouts.
  • Desktop 1.2.3: Bar requirement slightly increased from 18 to 20 Bars.
  • Console 1.06: Bar requirement slightly increased from 18 to 20 Bars.

FAQs

Is the titanium drill worth it? ›

Early into Hardmode, it is usually preferable to save Titanium for armor and weapons, as the Titanium Drill does not allow mining any new blocks that the Mythril and Orichalcum pickaxes and drills would not mine.

What type of drill is best for titanium? ›

Carbide drill bits are the best for titanium, but in case they are not available, you can also use a titanium coated or cobalt drill bit.

Can titanium be drilled? ›

Titanium requires high feed pressure to drill. This is a good application for a 135 deg split point, which requires less force to penetrate. I like cobalt HSS for titanium.

Is titanium drill better than gemstone drill? ›

On the other side, the gemstone drills are very slow when not mining gemstones. If the player has enough money and a sufficient HotM level, it is a good idea to go for the titanium drill line, with the goal of Divan's Drill.

Why is titanium so hard to drill? ›

Titanium is prone to work hardening, namely, as the material is cut, it becomes harder and, therefore, even more abrasive to tooling. A constant feed ensures that cutting work-hardened material is kept to an absolute minimum.

What are the disadvantages of titanium drill bits? ›

For soft metals and wood drill, you can choose titanium drill bits. It works well and cost you less. However, they need more regular sharpening and can lose their coating in the operation.

Is cobalt drill stronger than titanium? ›

Both cobalt and titanium drill bits are used to make holes in hard, tough materials like metal. Cobalt drill bits are the toughest you can get, and have no coating, unlike titanium drill bits. Titanium bits are coated with titanium nitride or carbonitride to reduce the effects of heat.

Can titanium drill bits go through wood? ›

Whether you can use metal drill bits for wood or not depends on the wood type and the type of drill bit used. Most metal drill bits increase splintering and tear-out when you use them for wood. However, titanium drill bits tend to be fine for this application.

What is stronger than titanium drill bits? ›

Carbide drill bits are formed from some of the planet's hardest materials. This means that carbide drill bits are much harder, but also suffer from a higher level of fragility, than titanium drill bits, which are crafted from high-speed steel, a material with a high strength and low fragility.

Will titanium drill hardened steel? ›

When drilling through hardened steel, you must ensure that your drill bit is made from tougher materials. Carbide bits are the strongest drill bits material and can cut through hardened steel. But if they are not available, titanium and cobalt drill bits can also be used.

Will titanium drill through stainless steel? ›

Choosing the Right Drill Bit

High-Speed steel drill bits – This type of bits are specifically designed for drilling stainless steel. The best HSS drill bits to use for this application are those with a Titanium Nitride tip to help reduce friction and heat.

What is the strongest type of drill? ›

Carbide: The hardest and most brittle of the drill bit materials, it's used mostly for production drilling where a high-quality tool holder and equipment is used. It should not be used in hand drills or even drill presses.

Why is titanium good for drill heads? ›

Titanium Coated

It is lightweight, yet tough enough to drill through just about every material from steel and iron to wood, plastic and other materials. It has a fast RPM and a short cycle time. Common titanium coatings include titanium nitride, titanium aluminium nitride and titanium carbon nitride.

Are carbide drill bits better than titanium? ›

Titanium-coated HSS drill bits produce less friction. They're tougher than basic HSS bits and stay sharp longer. They work for drilling wood, metal, fiberglass and PVC. Carbide-tipped drill bits stay sharp much longer than steel, HSS or titanium bits.

When should you use a titanium drill bit? ›

Titanium bits are suitable for drilling iron, steel, aluminum, magnesium, and wood. Titanium bits are great for general-purpose drilling in a production environment because they drill quickly.

Are titanium drill bits better than carbide? ›

Titanium-coated HSS drill bits produce less friction. They're tougher than basic HSS bits and stay sharp longer. They work for drilling wood, metal, fiberglass and PVC. Carbide-tipped drill bits stay sharp much longer than steel, HSS or titanium bits.

Are titanium drill bits better than cobalt?

Why use titanium drill bits? ›

A fraction of the cost of more rugged tools, titanium drill bits can cut oak, maple, and other hardwoods or non-ferrous metals, including aluminum and copper. Investing in a titanium drill bit set offers durability, versatility, and longevity, guaranteeing optimal performance across various materials.
