Can you visit the house from The Waltons? ›

Admission is $15 per person over 12 yrs of age. Tours begin at the Gift Shop. (Screen door to the right of the porch) Only guests of the BnB or people on a paid tour will be admitted inside the home. Prices subject to change.

Our hours are 10:00 am - 3:30 pm daily. Weekends only March April and November. Closed December thru February. Admission $12.00 per person, over 12.

The house used in filming The Waltons was a set, built on the studio lot for the show. After the series ended, the house was dismantled and moved to the Warner Brothers Ranch up the road a ways. Most of it burned down in the 90s due to an electrical fire, but it was rebuilt and yes, it's still there.

The truck that has been parked outside the Walmart Museum is a replica that is also used for parades and store openings. The original truck has been on permanent display inside the museum. The museum, along with Walton's 5&10 and the Spark Café, closed on Nov. 1, 2022, for renovation.

The new owners, Carole Johnson of Ukiah, California, Ray Castro of New Jersey, and Kirstin DeMaio of Michigan, plan to open it up for tours. The Waltons Hamner House opens Friday and tickets will be available at the Walton Mountain Museum across the street.

Michael James “Jim Bob” Walton, 64, passed away December 9, 2023, at his home in Rock Springs, Wyoming. He resided all over the United States, but called Rock Springs home for 25 years. Jim Bob was born April 22, 1959 in Evanston, Wyoming; the son of Vasco Gene Walton and Connie Roberts Walton.

All but three are still alive. Will Geer (Grandpa Walton) passed away in 1978, while the show was still running. Ellen Corby (Grandma Walton) passed away in 1999 and Ralph Waite (John Walton, Sr.) passed away in 2014.

In addition to the Walton characters, other roles, such as the “recipe-making” Baldwin sisters and General Store owner, Ike Godsey were also inspired by real people.

Carole Johnson — the owner of The Walton Hamner House — has been offering tours of the home, which is located in Nelson County, about 40 miles southwest of Charlottesville, for more than a decade. Johnson told WTOP visitors to the attraction have had to travel to other towns to spend the night.

Waite also founded the Los Angeles Actors Theatre in 1975 and served as its artistic director. The Waltons (1972), which earned him an Emmy nomination, ended in 1981 and Waite ventured on to other TV character roles during the 80s and 90s but less visibly.

Hamner's father worked in the mines from the time his eldest son was born until the company's closing. After losing his job, Earl Sr. could only find work as a machinist at the DuPont factory in Waynesboro, Virginia, about 30 miles away.
