Why Portland Is The Most Beautiful Parish In Jamaica - CLS Life & Style (1)

Portland Jamaica, is easily the most beautiful parish on the island. It boasts a number of must see places and experiences. First on the list is Frenchman’s Cove, which I consider to be one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. I’ve also visited the Errol Flynn Marina, one of the most beautiful and protected harbors in the world.

Furthermore, I can never pass up a trip to Blue Lagoon. Believed to be the crater of an extinct volcano, it’s one of the most beautiful natural attractions on the island. No doubt I absolutely love Winnifred Beach, a beautiful secluded beach perfect for swimming and sunbathing. Plus, I always stop at Boston Jerk Center for an authentic taste ofJamaican jerk chicken. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve jumped off the top of Reach Falls, the magnificent waterfall with a natural hole carved out by water called the Rabbit Hole that takes you to a secret underwater cave. Finally, Rafting on the Rio Grande, so world renown a preamble is unnecessary.

Somehow though, the parish still manages to offer more. I found a secluded little gem called Nanny Falls in Moore Town, so named after national heroine, Nanny of the Maroons. After a bit of a hike, I arrived at this absolutely awe-inspiring waterfall. Adjusting to its temperature required a few minutes of me standing still, only halfway submerged. Yes, it’s a bit on the nippy side, translated COLD! Interestingly, while I’m unable to confirm the claim at this point, the falls is said to possess healing properties.

On my visit I stayed at a refreshingly rustic hideaway called Sea Cliff, home of the famous Cliff Hanger restaurant. I arrived and simply couldn’t resist jumping into the hammock, sneakers and all. Hammocks are seen today as a symbol of summer, leisure, relaxation and simple easy living. I’ve since learnt that Hammocks were developed by native inhabitants of the Caribbean. Blissfully swinging to the rhythm of the ocean is amazingly therapeutic! One minute you’re awake, then boom, la la land. I had the pleasure of staying in the largest suite at the resort, which remained consistent with the theme of the property, a nature retreat.

The views are breathtaking, the air is pure and the sound of the ocean soothing. The novelty of having a truly authentic Jamaican breakfast while overlooking the vast Caribbean Sea, will never cease to be remarkably impressive. I’m sure you understand, why I firmly maintain that Portland is the most beautiful Parish on the island of Jamaica.
