Is depression high in Oregon?
One out of every five Oregon youth have experienced a “major depressive episode” in the past year. That's the highest rate in the nation. The report relies on data collected in 2020, prior to over a billion dollars in new investment in Oregon's mental health care system.
Based on the data, the U.S. city with the most depression is Billings, Montana. CEUFast says about 31% of residents out of a population of 181,000 have been told they're depressed by a professional. Meanwhile, Kingsport, Tennessee, ranks second, with 30.6% of residents told they have depression.

Oregon has some of the highest rates of depression in the US
People like us who live in the Pacific North West (PNW) experience some of the greatest rates of depression in the nation.
Overall, states with highest prevalence of mental illness were in South Dakota, Idaho, Montana, Kansas and Oregon. Lowest was in Georgia, South Carolina, Texas, New Jersey and North Carolina.
With a state score of 40.68 out of 50, Hawaii is the state least susceptible to seasonal depression according to our ranking. In Hawaii, the percentage of time between sunrise and sunset that sunshine reaches the ground during the winter months is 65%, which is significantly above average. The US average is 49.3%.
