Can you bring a bag to the Smithsonian museums?
Suitcases, large umbrellas, and large backpacks are not allowed in the galleries. Security officers may ask visitors to hand-carry smaller backpacks, or wear them on the front of their bodies. Please note that we do not offer coat or bag storage.
We allow backpacks in our museum. Visitors are permitted to bring food and beverages in sealed containers inside a backpack or other bag. Food and beverages may not be consumed in the museum.
While some museums may allow small backpacks as long as they are carried in front of the body, others may not allow them at all. It is always best to check the museum's website or call ahead to find out their specific policy about backpacks.
Carry a Backpack
Any Washington, DC, tour guide will tell you that a backpack is an excellent way to carry all your items as you walk throughout the city. It needs to be large enough to hold all your things while not being heavy enough to weigh you down.
In most museums, it is a person who looks into the bags if additional inspection is needed. You can bring in most items (except weapons!) but food and drink must remain in your bag. You will walk through a metal detector at: Air and Space Museum and its Udvar-Hazy Center (DC & VA)
The answer is to protect the artwork. Someone wearing a backpack in the traditional fashion could inadvertantly turn and brush into/knock over something with their backpack.
Maximum size of bag allowed
You cannot bring large bags or suitcases to the museum but lockers are available free of charge for smaller items. Please note: Any items exceeding 55 x 35 x 20 cm will not be allowed in the museum (welcome area and exhibition rooms).

The short answer: Yes, a backpack is generally considered a personal item if it fits under the seat in front of you. Most airlines offer a few examples of things that fit into the “personal item” category, such as a purse, laptop bag, or a briefcase, but they don't usually include “backpack” on those lists.
Yes, but only with your consent. A shop owner or employee can only carry out a bag search if you agree to it. A bag search includes looking in your bag, as well as emptying its contents.
Can you bring a backpack to the Smithsonian museum of Natural History?
We have limited locker storage available for small bags and items. Visitors are encouraged to travel as lightly as possible and refrain from bringing large bags and packs for the best museum experience.
Please do not:
Touch the artwork. Bring food or drink into the museum. Chew gum. Use flash when taking any photos.
Consider layers and comfortable footwear, but stick to elevated classics. You might be tempted to hit the cultural institution in your most casual outfits, but it's worth paying a little respect to the greats you've gone to visit, dressing in a way that might pay proper homage to the artwork you see on the walls.
Unfortunately, there is not a storage office to keep your luggage while you are visiting the Tower. So, any big backpacks, luggage on wheels or any big bags at all are not allowed. Can you bring snacks or water to the Eiffel Tower?
2. Climbing the Eiffel Tower with luggage ? Since the implementation of the vigipirates measures, security has been reinforced and it is not possible to go to the Eiffel Tower with luggage. It is therefore strictly forbidden to bring non-foldable pushchairs, suitcases and other luggage.
"Security measures: The Eiffel Tower as a well-frequented historical monument must ensure the safety of its visitors. Handbags are allowed, so small backpacks, ie. 'day bags' would be ok (security may check inside them).
Visitors must either keep water bottles concealed or contained at all times or place them in bags and check them. Visitors must either keep umbrellas in their purses or backpacks or check them.
For reasons of security and safety, the National Gallery has a bag size policy in place. The maximum size of bag allowed in the building is 56 x 25 x 45 cm. We ask that visitors (including groups) do not bring luggage such as suitcases to the National Gallery.
The Museum reserves the right to refuse entry to any visitor carrying the following prohibited items: Large bags, luggage, and musical instruments. Glass containers, jars, aerosol cans, and liquids other than water.
What is considered a personal item bag varies from airline to airline, but a small purse, briefcase and laptop bag are always considered personal items. Backpacks, totes, and crossbody bags are typically considered personal items too. The key to remember is it must be able to fit underneath the seat in front of you.

Tip #2: Reduce waste and save some money by bringing a reusable water bottle. So you can't bring H20 or any other liquids more than 3.4 oz. (well there are some exceptions) through security, but you CAN bring an empty bottle. Just fill it up on your way to boarding your flight after screening.
Spies under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. To succeed on your mission, we encourage the use of baby slings or backpacks as an alternative to strollers. Please note large strollers are not permitted in the exhibit. Strollers are stored in the Lobby Cloak Room before entering the permanent exhibition.
You can bring your purse.
However, any bags larger than 18x16x8 inches are not allowed. Most standard backpacks are not too large. For a list of prohibited items, check the Monument's Restricted Items Page.
Capital One Arena has implemented a strict no bag policy. Bags, backpacks and purses will not be permitted inside the arena. Wallet-size clutches no larger than 5” x 7”, medical bags and parenting bags no larger than 14”x 14”x 6” will be permitted and subject to security screening.
Can I bring a bag? Madison Square Garden asks all guests to arrive early and travel light. Bags do not have to be clear, but they must fit comfortably under your seat. Oversized bags larger than 22” x 14” x 9” are prohibited.
What to Expect at the Museum. For your safety, there are hand sanitizer stations throughout the Museum. External food and drink (with the exception of water bottles) are not permitted inside the Museum; we cannot provide a lunchroom at this time and Druxy's Café is temporarily closed.

The International Spy Museum is another great attraction that is worth the entrance fee. Since its opening in 2002, it has educated people of all ages on the history of espionage both in the USA and abroad. In fact, the International Spy Museum boasts the largest collection of spy-related artifacts in the world.
According to the National Park Service's Mike Litterst, the steps of the Washington Monument were closed for walking up in 1971, and then closed altogether — up and down — in 1976. There were occasional exceptions, such as special ranger-led tours that took visitors past the 190 carved memorial stones inside the shaft.

While every venue has different regulations for bags that you're allowed to bring inside, the general rule of thumb seems to be a clear plastic, vinyl or PVC bag that does not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12″.
Every concert venue has a different bag policy (check it out here), but a mini backpack ($24.90) is usually a safe bet. It's big enough for your essentials and leaves your hands free to dance. Carrying some tissues and wipes will come in handy when you need to clean your hands up after having a concert snack.
The NFL All Clear policy allows each family member (including children) to bring into the stadium: 1 bag that is clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and that does not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" OR a one-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
Can you bring a bag into Madison Square Garden? Yes, you can bring a bag into the venue, but the Madison Square Garden bag policy does strongly discourage all guests from doing so. Don't bring anything that won't fit under your seat, and any bags bigger than 22” x 14” x 9” will be refused entry.
Although the size varies, the size of an average tote bag is about 13 x 15 inches. Having a big opening allows items to be easily retrieved and added to the bag. There are generally no zippers or buttons that seal the bag shut; although there are variations that include these features.
BOTTLE CAPS/WATER BOTTLES: You'll once again be able to keep your bottle caps on water and soda purchases! Empty plastic water bottles will also be permitted inside (no metal or glass bottles).
