Acetone offers the most effective way to remove gel nail polish at home, says board-certified dermatologist Shari Lipner, MD, FAAD. Instead of wrapping your nails in foil, she recommends using plastic food wrap.
Each cotton pad will be dipped in the acetone and wrapped around each nail. This will keep the varnish remover pressed against the polish, but won't soak your cuticles. Yep, really. Tin foil is wrapped securely around each nail to keep the cotton pads in place.

When should gel nails be removed?
I'll give it to you straight: The longest you can wear a gel manicure without compromising your nail health is two weeks, says Evelyn Lim, chief educator of New York–based nail salon Paintbox.
You should tip 20% for your manicure. If your manicure was $50, then $10 is a good tip since it's 20% of the original service price.
On average, you should tip between 15% and 20% for a pedicure. Think of what the nail esthetician had to do with your feet and the extra effort they might have put in to make you feel more comfortable.

How often is it safe to get them? Gel nails usually last 2–3 weeks. While people can safely have gel nails every few weeks, dermatologists recommend keeping the nails bare for at least 1–2 weeks in between manicures. This helps to strengthen, repair, and rehydrate the nails.
However, Hadley suggests removing a gel manicure after two to three weeks maximum to avoid damaging nail beds and cuticles. Harpring agrees, adding that overextending gel manicures can not only lead to weakened nails, but also introduce potentially harmful bacteria.
Why are my nails so bad after gel polish?

Resins in a dip powder may be susceptible to water and household cleaners, while gel is solvent resistant. If your client uses or washes their hands regularly, a gel service might be better for them. A salon should be a safe space, where your clients can expect a clean, honest service that makes them feel good.
While there is no rule that says you need to tip in cash, it is often appreciated by nail technicians. If you are a regular and return to the same manicurist each time, it can be a nicety to extend the offer and plan ahead to tip in cash. If for some reason you are unhappy with your results, proceed with politeness.
