How do you walk through Golden Gate Park?
This 7.5-mile clockwise loop begins at Ocean Beach, winds east on JFK Drive into the heart of the park, and swings back west to the beach via MLK Drive. Highlights include eight lakes, two waterfalls, the Bison Paddock, Golden Gate Pavilion, Arch of Colonial Trees, and Rose Garden.

Getting to and Around the Park
Golden Gate Park is located on the far West Side of the city. It's about a 20-minute drive from downtown, but you can get there through Muni buses and train lines as well. The park has miles of walking trails and biking trails that are easy to get completely lost in.
It's about 6,040 steps across and 1.7 miles, so if you walk there and back, you're already getting in more than all the recommended steps for the day (plus some totally great photos for Instagram too).

The Golden Gate Bridge converted to one-way toll collection on October 19, 1968. This conversion meant that tolls were collected in the southbound direction only (heading into San Francisco). The Bridge was the first in the world to offer one-way toll collection.

Can you drive into Golden Gate Park?
A car-free route along a portion of JFK Drive in Golden Gate Park has existed since 1967, when street closures began every Sunday, on many Saturdays and during holidays and special events, allowing park visitors of all ages and abilities to use the roadway free of car traffic.
The Conservatory of Flowers and Japanese Tea Garden are now officially free for all San Francisco residents, though this will be offset by slightly higher prices for out-of-towners.
