Over the next ten years, van Gogh went on to create a body of work which included almost 900 paintings, and a further 1,100 works on paper – which meant a new artwork every 36 hours (on average) – phew! It's mind blowing how much he achieved in such a short time.

The Starry Night has never been stolen. It was inherited by Theo van Gogh, Vincent's brother and art dealer, following the artist's death in 1890. After Theo's death, his wife inherited the painting.
The spot—in a village north of Paris—now has a plaque linking it to Vincent's death. The exact spot where Vincent van Gogh was painting just a few hours before he shot himself has been found. The picture, Tree Roots, was identified as his last work a few years ago.
