Is 300 PPI good quality?
In many cases, the best resolution for printing is 300 PPI. At 300 pixels per inch (which roughly translates to 300 DPI, or dots per inch, on a printing press), an image will appear sharp and crisp. These are considered to be high resolution, or high-res, images.
300 PPI is the ideal printing resolution for quality
300 PPI is the optimal printing resolution for digital printing presses. This issue applies to all print products, from small products like business cards and postcards to larger products like booklet printing and a pocket folder.
The industry standard for quality photographs and image is typically 300dpi. For businesses, producing an external document like a brochure, a booklet, or a flyer requires 300dpi. You might be able to get away with 250dpi if you are less concerned with the quality and resolution of the printing.
300 PPI: The Magic Number
300 PPI is considered the ideal pixel density for printing because at 300 PPI, a pixel is just barely discernible to the human eye. Any higher of a pixel density would be unnecessary because the human eye would not be able to tell the difference.
If you work with multiple programs at the same time, we recommend a monitor with 95 to 110 PPI. Keep in mind that your PPI shouldn't be too high. A PPI higher than 140 makes text and icons smaller to such a degree that they're not clearly visible anymore.
As long as they're at least about 1024 pixels wide (for a horizontal image) they should be fine for teaching. The standard resolution for web images is 72 PPI (often called “screen resolution”).
A popular rule of thumb says the optimal image resolution for printing at the most common output sizes should be 300 ppi.
Is 300 DPI better than 600 DPI or does it work the other way? It depends, in fact, on what you are printing and what material is used. A higher resolution might be needed for glossy photos or images with lots of details that need to be crisp. Then 600 DPI could be a better option.
Is 300 PPI the same as 300 DPI? They're often used interchangeably. However, technically they aren't the same thing – 300 PPI refers to a digital image or a computer screen while 300 DPI refers to a physical printer.

How much DPI is good for daily use?
Most pro players use a DPI setting in the range of 400-to-800. Let's explain that. DPI is the number of dots per second that your mouse registers when you move it. Based on that understanding, it is fair to assume that a higher DPI means you are getting more accurate tracking.
Below are examples of a low resolution (72 dpi) file and a high resolution (300 dpi) file.
Some observations indicate that the unaided human generally can't differentiate detail beyond 300 PPI. However, this figure depends both on the distance between viewer and image, and the viewer's visual acuity.
Higher resolutions mean that there more pixels per inch (PPI), resulting in more pixel information and creating a high-quality, crisp image. Images with lower resolutions have fewer pixels, and if those few pixels are too large (usually when an image is stretched), they can become visible like the image below.
An image with a higher PPI tends to be of higher quality due to its greater pixel density. The individual pixels in a 300 PPI image are drastically smaller than in a 72 PPI image. Smaller pixels allow for a smoother blend of color and shape.
In case there are too many pixels per inch on a screen (over 110 PPI on desktop monitors), everything will be tiny, so you will need to apply scaling in order to increase the size of small items such as text to a readable level.
Pixels per inch (PPI) refers to the number of pixels contained within each inch of a digital image. It also refers to the set number of pixels a screen can display. Generally speaking, the higher the PPI, the better the image quality.
What a higher DPI does is make your digital photo larger. For example, if you scan a 4×6 photo at 300 DPI, you'll receive a digital image that's 1200 pixels wide and 1800 pixels tall. Scanning the same photo at 600 DPI will give you a digital photo that's 2400 pixels wide and 3600 pixels tall.
At 300 PPI, an image will appear sharp and crisp. This is considered to be high resolution or high-res. Images below 200 PPI are considered low resolution or low-res. Low-res images will appear pixelated and blurred after printing even though they might look perfect on your computer screen.
For most artwork, 300 dpi is preferred. Most printers produce excellent output from images set at 300 ppi. You can use 150 dpi for large prints because the difference in print quality is not very noticeable on large pieces when you look at the prints from a distance.
How large can you print a 300 PPI image?
Printing: It will show the required image size (pixels) to print this paper size at the dpi resolution. 3000x2400 pixels printed at 300 dpi will print (3000 pixels / 300 dpi) x (2400 pixels / 300 dpi) = 10x8 inches on paper. We are speaking of printing photos here.
Large format printing
You should be able to get great results as long as the images are at least 150 ppi at 100% size. Typically, the further the viewing distance is, the lower the image resolution needs to be. A billboard is typically printed at 10 ppi to 30 ppi.
For printing, the recommended resolution for all images and art files is 300 dpi. The offset press cannot accurately reproduce resolutions above 300, so it is the industry standard.
Recommended minimum resolution for printing is 300 dpi; computer monitors generally have a display setting of 72 dpi or 96 dpi. If we indicate that some of your images have low resolution, they may not look bad on your monitor but will likely print blurry or jagged.
300 DPI is the suggested minimum resolution for a high resolution, qualitative output specifically in print. The result is that you get a crisp, printed package. The fewer dots per inch, the less detail you can see in the design itself, and the lower the DPI, the more pixelated and blurred the image can be.
A 300 DPI image is considered to be a high quality photo for print. More dots = higher quality. PPI stands for pixels per square inch, which are squares of light that fit into an inch on a monitor. A 72 PPI image isn't appropriate for print because it will appear pixelated, like the right side of the image above.
300DPI for example, equals 118.11 PPI. For a good printing 300 DPI is standard, sometimes 150 is acceptable but never lower, you may go higher for some situations.
The best way to understand their connection is to imagine you want to print a 300 PPI image at 600 DPI. Simply divide 600 DPI/ 300 PPI and you have your answer 1 DPI = 1 PPI.
You do want to avoid playing at too high of a DPI, anything past 12000 is likely excessive, but more importantly, some sensors at this DPI accelerate and emulate the dots per inch, causing inconsistencies, it's not a true raw DPI.
For most documents, 300 dpi is sufficient enough to be of good legibility and to provide adequate OCR results. In some cases 200 dpi may be adequate for simply retaining a print copy of a document. Scans at 400 and 600 dpi will results in slower scan speeds as the scanner detect fine details in your document.
Does high DPI really matter?
Though a higher DPI can potentially result in slightly lower accuracy, to the average user it will have a negligible impact. Having the option of using a higher DPI is usually worth it. For example, a higher DPI might come in handy if you're working on a high-resolution display.
800 is the best starting DPI for a 1080p or a 1440p system. While it might seem low, this level is suitable for most gameplay styles. Rather than constantly changing a mouse's DPI, players should set an eDPI for each game.
An image meant to publish at 3.333 inches (82 mm single column width) and 300 DPI is roughly 1000 pixels wide (3.333 inches ¥ 300 DPI = 1000 pixels).
Since the resolution is 300 dpi, it means that each inch is 300 pixels across. As the image is 8 inches wide that means there are 2,400 pixels in width (8 x 300). Likewise, as the image is 12 inches long, the image is 3,600 pixels in length (12 x 300).
With resolutions like 1080p, you don't want things to be blurry and too big on a large screen. At higher resolutions like 4K, you don't want elements to be unreadable on a screen that is too small. Considering these limitations and the human eye's resolving power, a good range for monitors is 100 to 150 PPI.
For example a 24 inches display that shows a Full HD image (1920×1080) has a density equal to 91,79 PPI. The same screen at a 4k resolution (Ultra HD, or 3840×2160) has a density equal to 183.58 PPI.
An increase in the PPI usually means that inflation is on the way. Producers eventually will try to pass their cost increases on to consumers. A change in the PPI can signal a change in the Consumer Price Index.
At 100% magnification, the 3840 x 2160 pixel UHD 4K resolution can be fully utilized, but the pixel density is around 140 ppi, and the pixel pitch is about 0.18 mm, so it appears quite tiny from the normal viewing distance (left).
At higher resolutions like 4K, you don't want elements to be unreadable on a screen that is too small. Considering these limitations and the human eye's resolving power, a good range for monitors is 100 to 150 PPI.

For the best viewing experience, we recommend displays with a pixel density close to 110 PPI. At this pixel per inch ratio, you get plenty of screen space and sharp details without having to use any scaling. Of course, if you want a better image quality, aim for higher pixel density.

1080p vs.
27-inch 1080p monitor has a pixel density of about 81 ppi. 27-inch 1440p monitor has a pixel density of about 108 ppi.
However, 1080p proved to be superior and it's now quite rare to find HD monitors or TVs that use interlaced scanning. The jump to 4K resolution is an effective quadrupling of 1080p.
For digital editing purposes, (Web design, video, photos that will never be printed, etc.) the standard PPI to work at is 72ppi.
