Do you go to college at 16 in the UK?
Further education colleges and sixth-form colleges (colleges) are able to enrol and receive funding from the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) for students aged 14 to 16 years old. These students complete full-time study programmes.
As a general rule, most students graduate from high school when they are 18 years of age. If they proceed directly into college, and complete the curriculum requirements in the normal four year allotment of time, they will graduate from college, at the age of 22.
School leaving age

Electively home educated 14 and 15 year olds
Colleges sometimes admit children aged 14 or 15 who are being electively home educated, to take courses on an infill basis by arrangement with the local authority or with the parents/carers.
- You can work full time if you have left school, have a National Insurance number and the job has accredited training.
- You can give consent and have sex.
- You can be married or live together with a parent's permission.
- You can be prosecuted for having sex with someone who is under 16.
Access to free Further Education depends on the parent or child's immigration status. However, most children and young people aged 16- to 19-year-olds will be able to access further education and/or training for free even if they do not have documents to prove their status under 'exceptional circ*mstances'.
What should I do after year 11?
You may choose to: Stay at School, go to a College or Sixth Form and study full time courses. Get a job and take a work related course alongside it such as an OCR National, BTEC, City and Guilds or other accredited course. Be Self Employed but you will also need to do some accredited learning or training course.

Literally, you don't get paid to go to college in the UK. But you will receive plenty of financial support during your studies to cover education-related costs in the forms of bursaries, the majority of which don't need to be paid back.
For some courses, students aged 19 or older may need to pay fees. Check with the college to find out more. Leisure courses are also available to develop skills such as painting, creative writing and photography.
For Maths and English, resitting is compulsory if you haven't achieved a pass (grade 4). You'll need to continue studying these subjects until you either pass or turn 18. If you achieved a pass in Maths and English, there's no requirement to resit, but you can if you'd like a higher mark.
If you have no GCSEs and you don't want to resit them or ask for a remark you may still be able to get into college by taking a couple of Functional Skills courses – available in ICT, Maths, and English. Functional Skills are recognised GCSE alternative qualifications, with a Level 2 being equivalent to a GCSE grade 4.
Students are able to retake GCSEs and A-Levels as many times as they want. Even if you failed your maths GCSE three times, you can take it a fourth! However, retaking courses does accrue fees, so you want to figure out exactly what subjects they want to resit.
