Highland Dale, born March 4, 1943, was a registered American Saddlebred out of the sire, Liberty Dale, and dam, Marian Highland. At the spry age of 18 months, Highland Dale was discovered by Hollywood horse trainer, Ralph McCutcheon. Ralph nicknamed him simply “Beaut.”
The stallion was, undoubtedly, the best performer in this very ordinary picture bristling with cringeworthy acting and sickly background music. He played a number of bit parts in movies requiring scenes with a black horse, and then had a big break starring in Giant opposite Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean.
One of the original concepts of the show was that Fury remained a 'wild' (untamed) horse, who wouldn't allow anyone but Joey to ride him or even come near him.
Trigger, Roy Rogers' beautiful Golden Palomino stallion, and co-star with Roy in many of his movies and Roy's TV show, was often billed as "the smartest horse in the movies".
