What episode does Merlin reveal his secret?
In Season 5's “The Diamond of the Day - Part 2,” when Merlin finally reveals his magic to Arthur, it's fitting that he does it in the form of fire manipulation.
The Diamond of the Day starts with a mysterious figure entering Morgana's throne room; when he removes his cloak, he is revealed to be the powerful druid Ari. Morgana welcomes him and then makes him demonstrate his magical abilities.
Gaius, Kilgharrah, and Lancelot were the only main characters to know Merlin's secret and to be his long-time allies.
While tending to Arthur, Merlin confesses that he is a sorcerer. Arthur's only chance of survival is the powers of the Sidhe (pronounced "Shee") of Avalon, so Merlin sets out to reach the lake.
Jonas was the first person to discover Merlin's powers as he watched him try to use an enchantment on Lady Catrina.

Merlin is in love with the Lady of the Lake despite his age, and every time she comes he promises to teach her magic in exchange for her love. Every time this happens, she binds him in the tree by using magical thread which the Norns had at one time taught her how to spin.
Merlin finds his friend, limp and lifeless, and carries him away from the battleground. Then, when Arthur wakes, Merlin finally, FINALLY confesses the truth about his magic.
Originally a kind-hearted individual, Morgana became evil after being corrupted by Morgause and being betrayed by her former-friend Merlin.
Does Merlin fail his destiny?
It is unknown whether Merlin failed or fulfilled his destiny. Though Arthur's death would appear to have averted it, the Great Dragon told Merlin that all he had dreamt of building had come to pass and that when Albion's need was greatest, Arthur would rise again.
Trivia (2) Mordred as a young boy keeps calling Merlin "Emrys", which is actually Merlin's name as a Celtic druid and sorcerer. In Welsh, Merlin's full real name is actually Myrddin Wynn Emrys. Myrddin is his first name, Wynn is his family name and Emrys is his druid name.

Arthur only realizes the betrayal when he sees Agravaine leading the charge against Camelot. It becomes even more heartbreaking when Arthur asks Merlin why the pair hate him so much.
Though a dark spell can only happen when you crush the heart of someone you love. So, Nimue comes back as part of the dark ones -- meaning that when Hook crushes Merlin's heart, killing him, it's Nimue doing it as well. And she's always loved Merlin. Despite Emma being there, Hook does it -- and kills Merlin.
Summary: When Merlin is brought to Camelot as a part of their peace talks between his home kingdom and Camelot, he accidently ends up pregnant to none other than the prince of Camelot.
During their time together, Merlin revealed to Balinor that he was his son, a revelation that shocked him.
The finale was “a love story between two men”
Most notably, the showrunner confirms that Merlin and Arthur did indeed grow to love each other by the end of the series, calling it a “pure” love. “We did, very genuinely, think of the episode as a love story between two men.
However, Mordred's faith in Arthur and Camelot was shattered after the imprisonment and death of his beloved Kara. Believing that Arthur had betrayed him and metaphorically spat on their friendship, Mordred turned against the king and joined Morgana once more.

“What we decided to do was to tell the legend how it was in many ways,” Murphy says. “And I suppose we're very sad that Arthur had to die, [but] that is a massive part of the legend.” This was the reason for the final scene, where we see Merlin in the present day.

Old Merlin, otherwise known as Emrys, is Merlin's alter ego. The young warlock uses an aging spell to transform himself into an old man and must take a potion to transform back to his young self. Gaius is the only one to know Old Merlin's true identity.
When Nimue and Merlin meet in the fifth episode, she asks the wizard why her mother instructed her to bring him the sword. By the end, viewers learn that not only did he and her mother have a relationship, but Nimue is actually Merlin's daughter.
