What is a Chevalier award?
The Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur (Knight of the National Order of the French Legion of Honour) is the highest civilian award given by the French Republic for outstanding contribution to the recipient's field of expertise, regardless of their nationality. It was instituted in 1802 by Napoleon Bonaparte.
