Does Griffith Park charge for parking?

The area surrounding the Griffith Observatory is paid parking. Parking is enforced every day of the year, Monday-Friday 12pm—10pm and Saturday and Sunday 10am—10pm. Parking fees increase over peak season/holidays.
Griffith campuses are Regulated Parking Areas (Griffith University Act 1998) and parking must be paid for. Casual parking is available in daily (light purple) and 2-hour parking zones (green); view the campus parking maps below to find your best parking option.
Access to Griffith Park is free, though there is paid parking closest to the Observatory. There are public restrooms located next to the Observatory parking lot. Trailheads on Observatory grounds lead to Mount Hollywood, the Greek Theatre area, and Fern Dell.
*Our Griffith Observatory hike tour lasts 2.5 hours. Following the Hollywood Hills hike tour, guides will bring guests into the Griffith Observatory for an insider highlights tour. Guests may spend as long as they'd like at the Observatory following the hike tour and insider tour.
Griffith Park is open daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Road parking and lots are open. There is paid parking available in and around the Observatory (see below).
You may have to park far away and hike 15 minutes or more to get up to the site. That's another reason that the best time to visit Griffith Observatory is during a weekday morning or early afternoon.
Payment can be made via the PayStay app or at pay-by-plate machines located on campus.
May I bring food or drinks into the Observatory? No. Food and drinks are not permitted in the building. However, you may purchase food and drinks at the Observatory's Café at the End of the Universe on the lower level.
Generally, students at Griffith College wear comfortable, casual clothes around the campus. Shorts or jeans and a light shirt are perfect for the warm weather we usually enjoy in Queensland.

Best time to go: Early morning (as early as 6 a.m.) may be the best time to avoid crowds. In the early evenings even wide trails can be crowded, and not everyone wears a face covering and keeps a safe distance. Picnic areas in the park are far apart; again, go early to snag one if you plan to spend the day.

If you want to see a planetarium show, best to go early. If you just want to walk around and see a sunset or the night sky, park way down below the Observatory (free) and hike up (takes about 20 minutes up, 10-15 minutes down).
