How strong is 3mm Perspex?

5mm Clear acrylic sheets, commonly referred to as Perspex sheets, are a lightweight clear material up to 10x stronger than glass. 5mm acrylic isn't flexible unless working with very large sizes, in which you may find it can warp if not supported effectively.
For a premium look, go for a reasonable thickness of either 4mm acrylic or 5mm acrylic. Have the edges of the cut to size acrylic well-polished and you will have an instant shine and sheen.
Plexiglass comes in a variety of thickness, typically thicknesses are 1/16", 1/8", 3/16", 1/4", 3/8", 1/4", 1/2", 1", 1.25", 1.5", 2", 2.5", 3", and 4". Typical sheet sizes are 2'x4', 4'x4', 4'x6', 4'x8', 4'x10', 5'x8', 6'x8' and 6'x10'.
Generally speaking, thicknesses of one-eighth of an inch or one-quarter of an inch are used for glazing, but the onetenth size can be used for small panels in doors; the thicker the panel, the more break-resistant it is. There are two methods of cutting the sheets to size: sawing and scribing.

How thick should table tops be?

If you want a 0-12 inches high fish tank, the thickness of the sheets should be ¼ inches. For 13-19 inches height, the acrylic glass should be ⅜ inches thick. For a 20-24 inches aquarium, the thickness of plexiglass should be ½ inches.
The plexiglass car windows might have durability and flexibility features. But, these are extremely prone to scratches. The acrylic-based glass gets scratches with everyday use. One may have to install a thick transparent film on both sides of the glass to make it secure.
Any case over 40 inches (in a total of length + width + height) should use 3/16 or 1/4 inch thick acrylic and any case over 85 inches (in a total of length + width + height) should use 1/4 inch thick acrylic.
When selecting your shed or summerhouse window panes we recommend a minimum gauge of 3mm for adequate rigidity. This is becasue some customers have told us 2mm thick polycarbonate can be 'too bendy' particularly on larger panel sizes.
