The Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) was founded in 2011 and was appointed as the owner of the project and the MRT lines, unlike the LRT and monorail lines which are owned by Prasarana Malaysia.

The Manila-Malabon Line was the first to be finished, opening for business on 20 October 1888. All five were constructed between 1885 and 1889. The first ,i>tranvias were horse-drawn omnibuses for 12 seated and 8 standing passengers. The system was 16.3-km long—slightly longer than today's only operating LRT line.
THE LIGHT RAIL TRANSIT SYSTEM

The first MRT line implemented was the 51km Kajang line. Construction of the line was officially launched on 8 July 2011 by then Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Bin Tun Abdul Razak.
