Why doesn't France give the Mona Lisa back to Italy?
It was Salai who rightfully sold it to King Francis the first, the King of France, for 4,000 gold coins and thus, the Mona Lisa has rightfully been kept by the French government since then. The only exception occurred in 1911, when a worker of the Louvre named Vincenzo Peruggia, stole it and took it back to Italy.
The painting was probably incomplete when Leonardo da Vinci left Florence for Milan in 1506, then, invited by François I ten years later, he took the work with him to France. Like its identity, the story of the Mona Lisa and its journey to Paris remains obscure.
The Mona Lisa's fame is the result of many chance circ*mstances combined with the painting's inherent appeal. There is no doubt that the Mona Lisa is a very good painting. It was highly regarded even as Leonardo worked on it, and his contemporaries copied the then novel three-quarter pose.

Why was Mona Lisa attacked?
The “Mona Lisa,” a 16th-century portrait by Leonardo da Vinci—and arguably the most famous painting on earth—was the target of a pastry attack Sunday in a stunt by a climate change protester who was dressed as an elderly woman.
Leonardo da Vinci began working on the Mona Lisa while living in his native Italy and did not finish it until he moved to France (at the invitation of the French king, Francois I, who commissioned him for artworks). Francois I displayed the painting in his palace in Fontainebleau, and there it remained for a century.
It was acquired by King Francis I of France and is now the property of the French Republic. It has been on permanent display at the Louvre in Paris since 1797.
In his 1923 book, Leonard de Vinci et les Jocondes, Léon Roger-Milès argues that Leonardo actually painted at least two versions of the Mona Lisa, including one for Francesco del Giocondo, and another for Giuliano de' Medici. According to Vasari, the painting was created for the model's husband, Francesco del Giocondo.

While the price tag associated with it is hard to calculate, considering it is deemed priceless; the estimated cost for the Mona Lisa price is approximately $860 Million.
The Mona Lisa is actually owned by the people of France, with the French Government as its administrator. This wasn't always the case. The original owner was Leonardo Da Vinci. He painted it while he was a guest of King Francis I, the King of France.
It is believed, however, that the Mona Lisa does not smile; she wears an expression common to people who have lost their front teeth. A closeup of the lip area shows a scar that is not unlike that left by the application of blunt force.

The asymmetric smile, also known as a non-duch*enne smile, "reflects a non-genuine emotion and is thought to occur when the subject lies," note the authors, who suggest the idea da Vinci may have specifically asked Lisa for a crooked smile.
According to a recent study by the University of Freiburg, though, the answer to whether she is “sad” or “happy” is simple: her expression is unequivocally “happy”.
Who threw a rock at the Mona Lisa?

In the last days of 1956, Mona Lisa faced her second attack. A homeless Bolivian man named Ugo Unzaga Villegas threw a rock at the masterpiece, chipping some paint off of her elbow — allegedly because he wanted to go to prison so he'd have somewhere warm to sleep, sadly.
A man who seems to have been disguised as an old woman in a wheelchair threw a piece of cake at the Mona Lisa in Paris. Video posted on social media shows security guards at the Louvre Museum escorting the man away Sunday as he spoke in French about the planet.

How much is a Mona Lisa 1911 worth?
In 1911, the Mona Lisa was not yet instantly recognizable.
