Why is it called Fandom? ›

Origins of Fandom

Fans of the literary detective Sherlock Holmes are widely considered to have comprised the first modern fandom, holding public demonstrations of mourning after Holmes was "killed off" in 1893, and creating some of the first fan fiction as early as about 1897 to 1902.

Fandom (formerly known as Wikicities and Wikia) is a wiki hosting service that hosts wikis mainly on entertainment topics (i.e., video games, TV series, movies, entertainers, etc.). The privately held, for-profit Delaware company was founded in October 2004 by Wikipedia co-founder Jimmy Wales and Angela Beesley.

How to delete Fandom? ›

Unfortunately, there is no way to completely delete one's Fandom account; you can only be able to deactivate it (which I know that you are aware of), which is kind of like deleting it, but it won't necessarily wipe down everything from the account.
